Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

One of the UK’s most respected female soul artists, Mica Paris has been named our “Queen of Soul” - and for good reason. Releasing her debut album ‘So Good’ in 1988, Mica has since gone on to release seven further albums, including her most recent, ‘Gospel’, and has worked alongside the likes of Prince, Boy George and Alexander O’Neal to name a few.

Appointed an MBE in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to music, entertainment and charity, Mica has also worked extensively in broadcasting, including television and radio for over twenty years. In 2002, Mica hosted the BBC Radio 2 programme ‘Soul Solutions’ and has since narrated and hosted several music documentaries for the station. More recently, Mica explores the church-based roots of her music candidly in the BBC documentary ‘Gospel According to Mica’ - all the more poignant with its airing during the Black Lives Matter protests.
Mica is also a published author: ‘Beautiful Within: Finding Happiness and Confidence in Your Own Skin’ written to inspire confidence and self-esteem in women and others.

In this episode, Mica discusses how her approach to health, fitness and nutrition has helped with her physical and mental wellbeing, as well as a fascinating insight into her extraordinary career.

#17 - Mental Health Awareness with Dr Jonathan Garabette

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

Throughout the pandemic, millions of us have experienced a mental health problem, or seen a loved one struggle. To discuss the importance of mental health, we are joined by Dr Jonathan Garabette to acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from 10th – 16th May 2021. Last year, 1 in 4 people experienced a mental health problem of some kind in England. Levels of awareness about common mental health problems have improved over the last few years, but some are still living with severe mental illness. This week, we want to explore further and what we can do to help.

Dr Jonathan Garabette originally trained as a medical doctor at Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, where he received a first-class degree in neuroscience, before graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 2004. He then undertook specialist psychiatry training on the prestigious South London & Maudsley training scheme. Dr Garabette qualified as a consultant psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry in 2012. Fewer than 1% of UK psychiatrists hold dual qualifications as a consultant and as a medical psychotherapist. Qualifying as a consultant psychiatrist in medical psychotherapy in 2015, this specialism enables Dr Garabette to not only provide expert general adult psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment; but also highly specialised, individualised psychotherapeutic assessment, recommendations and therapy.

#16 - Chronic Inflammation on our Health with Yalda Alaoui

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

Inflammation happens in everyone, whether we are aware of it or not. Our immune system creates inflammation to protect the body from infection, injury or disease. Sustained and ongoing inflammation, however, also known as chronic inflammation, can be detrimental to both our physical and mental health. Anxiety, hormonal issues, autoimmune disorders, low energy: the root of all these symptoms can often be linked to chronic inflammation. It is therefore essential to keep a low inflammation lifestyle in order to maintain a strong immune response.

Today, we are joined by founder of online wellbeing platform Eat, Burn, Sleep, Yalda Alaoui, who delves into the topic further. We explore how to achieve optimal health by living an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. After suffering a series of health issues, including a battle with two autoimmune conditions, Yalda decided to take matters into her own hands and researched more holistic ways of curing her ailments.
