#32 - The Dynamic Duo: Beverley Knight & James O'Keefe

In this week’s episode, we have our very first duo on the podcast, Beverley Knight and James O'Keefe. Known as one of Britain’s greatest soul singers, Beverley emerged to the scene in the mid nighties, and is praised for her hit singles such as ‘Shoulda Woulda Coulda’ and ‘Everything’s Gonna be Alright’. Beverley is also known for her work in musical theatre, and on television, as well as hosting four series of the BBC Radio 2 show ‘Beverley's Gospel Nights’. In recognition of her contribution to British music, Beverley was awarded with an MBE in 2006. Beverley and James met through work at a TV shoot, where James was working as a production technician, and the couple were married in 2012. James has a podcast called ‘The Plus Ones’, based on what life is like for the non-famous other-halves of celebrities. The pair have been interviewed together before as they openly talk about mental health to help spread awareness. Listen to how this dynamic duo motivate each other to live a healthier life.

#31 - The Making of a Champion - Denise Lewis, OBE

In this week’s episode, we are delighted to introduce sporting legend, Denise Lewis. Denise is a former Olympian who notably achieved gold in heptathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Not only is Denise a two time Commonwealth Games champion and the 1998 European Champion, she also won silver medals in the 1997 and 1999 World Championships. After retiring from track and field in 2005, Denise was inducted into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.

In addition to Denise’s sporting achievements, she was honoured as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2001 New Year Honours. Denise is now a sports presenter and personality, as well as President of Commonwealth Games England. #30 - Real Life Superhero: Tony Hudgell

Tony Hudgell is a very smiley and inspirational young man, who is joined on the podcast by his adoptive mother, Paula. At the age of 7, Tony is a 2021 Pride of Britain award winner, who has raised an incredible £1.8 million for the NHS to date. Tony’s mission is to enhance the lives of children who have been affected by physical, emotional, or psychological abuse.

Tony is a double amputee, and last year walked for the first time with crutches. Inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore, Tony set his own challenge in 2020 to walk 10km on his prosthetic legs which he magnificently completed. Paula and Mark Hudgell adopted Tony after his biological parents abused him so horrifically. Tony was just one month old when he was admitted to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital in Southwark, with multiple fractures, multiple organ failure and sepsis, thus causing both his legs to be amputated.

#29 - Living Mindfully with Jordan Mae

Slow down and learn to be in the present moment with Jordan Mae Antoinette. A former dancer, and one of our resident yogis at Lanserhof at The Arts Club, has taught yoga all over the world. Jordan completed her Ashtanga Vinyasa Teacher Training in Thailand, and began teaching private one to one and public group classes in Thailand, Vietnam, Canada and Costa Rica. Originally from Canada, Jordan moved to London in 2018 and has been teaching full time here since. Known for her infectious personality, Jordan has developed a creative and energetic style to her teaching. Her yoga flows are influenced by positive mantras and chakras and music is a big part of her practice and classes. Listen to Jordan discuss yoga, mindfulness and mental health, especially as we adjust to life post lockdown.

Robi Walters is a hugely successful London based artist known for transforming discarded materials into beautiful works of art in his own studio and gallery in Soho. Having previously collaborated on projects with Aston Martin and Tom Kerridge, Robi’s colourful pieces have attracted celebrity collectors such as Thandie Newton, Maxim from the Prodigy and Major Lazer’s Diplo as well as the legendary, Usain Bolt. As a keen philanthropist, Robi has worked with the likes of U2 and Sir Paul McCartney in order to raise money for charities, and has featured on the Channel 4 series of Lost Childhood in order to help raise awareness of how society looks after vulnerable children. Dr Guy Meadows is a sleep physiologist, with a doctorate from Imperial College, London. He has been working on sleep for the past 12 years, and is also passionate about educating people about the importance of mindfulness and how to achieve a greater quality of life. Guy is a published author and co-founder of Sleep To Perform and The Sleep School.

The Sleep School uses clinically proven education and tools to teach users how to sleep better for life, naturally. #22 - Keeping your heart healthy with Dr Michael Papadakis

In this week’s episode, we are joined by Dr Michael Papadakis, a Consultant Cardiologist, specialising in cardiovascular disease prevention, sports cardiology and inherited cardiac conditions. In the UK, it is estimated that over 160,000 people die from heart and circulatory diseases each yea. With this in mind, we are delighted to speak to Dr Papadakis to discuss this tricky subject and explore ways we can keep our hearts healthy and, ultimately, prevent heart disease.

Dr Papadakis was awarded a Fellowship with the European Society of Cardiology in 2016 and is credited with over 80 publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals, having contributed to a number of projects as an expert, including the creation of the Sports Cardiology core curriculum, the creation of the international ECG criteria for an athlete’s evaluation and exercise recommendations in individuals with heart disease. In 2016 he launched a MSc programme in Sports Cardiology, the first postgraduate qualification of its kind.
